Angelina Jolie, original name Angelina Jolie Voight, (born on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California, U.S.), American actor and director renowned for her sexual edginess and sex appeal as well as for her charitable work. She was awarded an Academy Award for her supporting character as a mental patient in Girl, Interrupted (1999).Jolie, daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent much of her childhood in New York before relocating to Los Angeles at age 11. She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years. She after that, she enrolled at Beverly Hills High School. Later, she studied drama at New York University. She also appeared in theatre productions as well as modeled for music videos. It was in Hackers (1995) when Jolie got to know Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married in 1996 and divorced in 1999). It was not a huge success, and neither were other films. Jolie in the role of Alabama's segregationist governor's wife attracted a lot of attention in 1997. In the following year, she received an award called the Golden Globe Award. In the HBO film Gia, she played a supermodel with drug addiction. She received numerous honours as well as a Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award. She was a co-star with John Cusack in Pushing Tin in 1999. The following year, she married Thornton (divorced in 2003). She played the role of the girlfriend of the carjacker (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) and later adopted a British accent and mastered street fighting and kickboxing to play the title roles in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). She played Alexander's mother in Oliver Stone’s Alexander in 2004. She was also in the film with Jude Law and Gwyneth paltrow in Sky Captain: The World of Tomorrow the thriller about science fiction set in 1930s New York City. Both films were unsuccessful at the box office, but Jolie had a great time in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005). She was a housewife who pretends to play an assassin. While working on the film she met Brad Pitt who became her co-star.
