Rachel Anne McAdams was conceived on the 17th of November 1978 in London (Ontario, Canada) to Sandra Kay (Gale), who is a nurse, as well as Lance Frederick McAdams who is a truck driver/furniture mover. Rachel is English, Welsh and Irish-born. Rachel became involved with acting when she was a teenager, and at the age of 13 was appearing in Shakespearean productions at summer theatre camp. She later was able to graduate with honors , earning an honors BFA degree in Theater at York University. Following her TV debut in Disney's The Famous Jett Jackson in 1998, she starred on Canadian television's Slings and Arrows 2003. This comedy-drama is about the struggles of Shakespearean theater groups. She was awarded an Gemini Award for her performance in 2003. The role she played in Mean Girls (2004) as Regina George instantly landed her on the list of Hollywood's most sought-after of promising young actors. After that she starred alongside Ryan Gosling as the romantic drama adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' bestseller The Notebook (2004). The Notebook was a huge success at the box office and became the most watched romantic drama for the young crowd. McAdams and Gosling fell in love during filming and continued to be together up to the middle of 2007. McAdams and Gosling soon found themselves in a relationship and began to get married. After starring in The Lucky Ones, a military drama State of Play, and The Time Traveler's Wife (2009) McAdams was a co-star with Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. in Guy Ritchie's international blockbuster Sherlock Holmes. McAdams was the shrewd producer of Morning Glory (2010). She also was the fiancee with a materialistic character Owen Wilson in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris (2011). McAdams returned to romantic drama in The Vow (2012), which she starred opposite Channing Tatum. McAdams is also a part of Terrence Malick in To the Wonder (2012) as well as Noomi Rapace in Passion (2012) in Brian De Palma’s thriller.
